Vision
& Mission
Members of Bridge To Freedom (BTF)
will distribute educational material
about mental illness, its causes and
treatment, and the role of Consumer
Run Organizations in recovery. We
have formed a speakers' bureau that
will continue to provide presentations
about mental illness and recovery
to groups such as schools, state hospital
staff and patients, mental health
center staff and consumers, and civic
organizations. We want to educate
patients at OSH about the value of
CROs and refer them to CROs in their
hometowns. We adopt a needy family
during Christmas season, giving them dinner
and gifts. We provide at least two
leadership training presentations
using consumer-to-consumer experts
from developed CROs. BTF will write
a newspaper article in the local newspaper, will distribute a brochure quarterly, and will visit the mental health museum
in St. Joseph to learn how consumers
were treated in the 40's. BTF teaches
members to reading, writing, and math skills
by using a computer. BTF has a cooking
class as well as computer training.
In addition, BTF offers members opportunities
to run the CRO activities. Members
are taught how to fish and to respect
ecology. Members have opportunities
to find additional funds by grant
writing and fundraising.
