Vision and MissionVision & Mission
Nuts and Bolts (NB) is an organization of people with severe and persistent mental illness and other related problems who gather to use their personal strengths and capabilities to fulfill their common and individual needs. NB is run by members and will provide members with both a safe place for social interaction and new opportunities for leadership, education, training and research.

Primary Programs and ActivitiesPrimary Programs and Activities
Our target population is individuals with severe and persistent mental illness. Our members must meet the criteria listed in the SRS Consumer Run Organizations Self-Help Special Purpose Grant - Request for Proposal. These criteria must have occurred on a continuous or intermittent basis over the last two years, due at least in part to the experience of severe and recurrent psychological or psychiatric distress, which would meet the diagnostic criteria for schizophrenia, bipolar, depression or other similar diagnosis. Further, our target group are those persons who live in Stevens, Haskell, Meade, and Seward Counties, Kansas.

There are more than 110 adults with severe and persistent mental illness identified within the area. This is the only known consumer operated support group for persons with severe and persistent mental illness in Seward, Stevens, Haskell or Meade counties of Kansas. There is a need to have others who understand mental illness to share time and activities with consumers. We operate with a board of directors consisting of individuals with mental illnesses from within the community at large.

NB has benefited from sharing experiences, ideas, dreams, plans, etc. with other mental health consumers in Kansas. Some examples of these interactions include conferences; local, regional and state meetings sponsored by National Alliance for the Mentally Ill-Kansas (NAMI-KS), Kansas Social Rehabilitation Services (SRS), Consumer Advisory Council (CAC), Consumer Run Organization (CRO) Networking, Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP) and Self-Help Network (SHN) of Kansas, elected officials and representatives, and other individuals and organizations. Funds are being requested to continue and enhance consumer participation in these educational and empowering opportunities. Most consumers live on low, often fixed incomes or no income. Persons cannot independently afford to participate regularly in these important activities. Financial assistance will enable more consumers to be more involved. More active consumers benefit the individuals, their families, friends and community, & Nuts and Bolts, Inc. Transportation to and from CRO activities is a need for many individuals. Public transportation is very limited. Most active consumers do not even have access to a family car. Transportation to CRO-related activities increases opportunity to participate in consumer-sponsored events and access to community resources and other opportunities for community socialization.
